$200m Banco do Brasil banker joins Rio wealth firm
By Daniela Sirtori-Cortina
Banco do Brasil private banker Sônia Martire has joined a Rio de Janeiro wealth manager founded earlier this year by a breakaway team from the Brazilian bank.
Martire joined Monet Investimentos on March 21, said one of the firm's partners Gabriella Valadares, and ran about 800 million Brazilian reais ($200 million) while at Banco do Brasil.
The Monet founders, who were all Banco do Brasil advisors, launched their firm on January 28 as an independent wealth manager on the XP Investimentos platform.
Martire worked for about 20 years at the bank, spending the last 10 years within its private client segment, Valadares said.
Her addition to the team is part of Monet's plan to expand its advisor base, which currently comprises Martire, Valadares and her founding partners: Herzel Fernandes, Tiago Carrielo and Fábio Bezerra. The company currently runs 200 million reais for clients.
'Our plan is, in the short term, to fill the two other vacancies in our office so that with a complete team we can reach our first 1 billion reais in assets by the end of the year,' Valadares said.
In a previous interview with Citywire Americas, Valadares said they started the company because they were seeking to avoid conflicts of interest and offer their clients open architecture investment solutions.
Monet caters to clients with more than 3 million reais in assets. XP allows independent advisors to set up their own firms using the company as their broker, allowing wealth managers to invest their clients' assets in a wide variety of products on its platform including, more than 400 funds investing in local and foreign assets.
